CBU Women’s Basketball is undefeated

Already on a 14-0 winning streak this season, the women’s basketball teamat California Baptist University ranked No. 9 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll on Tuesday.

“It’s a big honor to be ranked this high,” Head Coach Jarrod Olson said in an email yesterday. “It puts us in some real good company and is a big step for us in terms of the big picture of our program.”

Only two other teams in the nation remain undefeated, Bucknell (8-0) and UC Davis (5-0). Both Bucknell and the Lancers hold the nation’s second longest win streak at 17-straight games, coming in second to inactive Princeton at 22 wins in a row.

“This team is very adaptable in general, and they are motivated by their commitment to having a good season, I think that has helped them make better choices,” Olson said. “The more motivated you are to do something, the more likely you are to follow through on it.”

Here are five of the Lancers top statistics from their season:

  • 21 assists per game which is tied for 3rd most in the NCAA
  • The Lancers are holding opponents to just 31.9% from the field
  • The Lancers average an 18.9 point margin of victory
  • Senior point guard Ane Olaeta has 98 assists this season, 4th best in the NCAA
  • Senior forward Britney Thomas is shooting 69.7% from the field, 2nd best in the NCAA
