Jesse Tweed, candidate for Riverside Unified School District Board Trustee, answers questions about why he is running for election.
Dr. Jesse Tweed is a committed pediatrician, educator, and parent dedicated to the health and success of Riverside’s children. A Riverside native and graduate of Poly High, he and his wife, Ashley, are raising their two daughters in the Riverside Unified School District. Dr. Tweed earned his B.S. from UC Davis and his medical degree from UCLA. He teaches at CBU, UCR, and Loma Linda University, inspiring future healthcare professionals. As a School Board member, he offers a proactive approach to ensure a safe, thriving educational environment for all students.
What I love most about Riverside is the growth and opportunities it has provided for me and my family. I have lived here my whole life, receiving an excellent education that laid the foundation for my future success. Riverside has a strong sense of community, with engaged and committed citizens who make it a great place to live. More than anything, I love the bright future it’s creating for my two daughters.
To me, a board member is a citizen tasked with holding the leadership of the school district accountable to the public it serves. The School Board is also responsible for setting the direction and mission of the district and ensuring that it remains aligned with the needs and values of our community.
RUSD does a great job creating an environment where our strongest students can excel academically, athletically, and in the arts. The district also excels at supporting and developing our teachers, providing them with the resources and training they need to succeed.
My top three priorities would be promoting school safety and well-being, fostering academic excellence, and ensuring workforce readiness by investing in career technical education and vocational skills training.
As a pediatrician, I bring unique expertise in student health and well-being. As a parent of two RUSD students, I understand the pressures facing families today. And as the appointed and current RUSD Board member, I am actively engaged with schools and students, serving as a voice for our community.
