Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
Plascenia is being challenged by Sean Mill, whom she beat by 222 votes in the 2019 election.
Ward 5 City Council Member Gaby Plascencia has announced her intention to run for re-election, pledging to continue her work on community empowerment and fostering a sense of belonging among residents. Plascencia first took office in 2019 when she ran against Sean Mill for the same seat; she won that election by 222 votes.
"It has been an incredible experience being able to see firsthand how much progress can be made when we all come together with shared goals in mind," said Plascencia in a statement on her website.
Plascencia emphasized her commitment to problem-solving and a collaborative approach to governance. "I take seriously the responsibility entrusted upon me by each one of you and strive tirelessly to ensure that we are working together towards solutions for any problems faced by our residents," she stated.
If re-elected, Plascencia pledges to continue her work alongside the residents of Riverside to make the city a better home for all families. "Thank you so much for considering me again as your representative—let us work together towards creating positive change right here in our very own city," she concluded.
In 2021, City Council voted 6-0 to censure current Ward 5 Plascencia for ethics-violation findings that she used her position for "personal gain" and discriminated against Mill in requesting he be removed from the Arlington Business Partnership shortly following her defeat of Mill in the 2019 election.
