Neighbor of the Week: Michael J. Elderman
Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
A prompt to encourage your practice of creativity this week from Riversider and local author Larry Burns.
Do you need a low stress way to include seven minutes of creative contemplation into your week? Consider this your helpful nudge towards a slightly more creative life. If it helps, come back every week for a quick hit of creative contemplation. Each week I’ll share a new nudge. It will include a Thing (T), a Place (P), and a Sense(S) for your focus, a TPS creative nudge.
Last week, we poked around in the lost secrets of our junk drawers, reconnecting with forgotten items for a few minutes of creative reuse. The act itself can be creative and delay entry into a landfill or waterway near you. Perhaps you fashioned a bracelet from old keys and poker chips or a colorful collage of old to-do lists to brighten your day. Did you notice other places where things tucked away or hidden that can be brought into the brightness of your day? Whatever the result, get ready for another attempt at creative reuse.
This week, we shift our focus to something you are already on the lookout for…the arrival of THAT Amazon package. Without peeking I can correctly guess you have a few already scattered around your home (or just outside it) right now. For this week’s creative nudge, we transform our front porch into a stage for spontaneity, creativity and self-exploration. Waiting for something naturally helps you engage your perception of time, but use any sense you like to spark your imagination.
For some of us, just thinking of the symphony of sound before and after a delivery creates a vivid sensation of how we feel when our package is finally opened! As your package awaits your eager hands, try a few of the following creative starts:
Engage with sight, touch, smell, sound, and taste, or even transcend these boundaries with an intuitive blend of sensory experiences. It’s your Amazon package. There are many Amazon packages like it, but this one is yours!
Embrace the arrival, savoring the excitement of what lies within, and let the creative energy flow. Find joy in the act of discovery, reimagine the package's purpose, and celebrate the beauty of creative exploration with multi-sensory delight.
