City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve a $1,470,470 project for the repaving of the Mt. Rubidoux trail. The proposed project includes maintenance and repair work to the asphalt trail as well as modifications to improve accessibility for fire vehicles during fourth of July fireworks events.
“This work is much needed. It will make the trail safer for pedestrians, hikers, and emergency vehicles” said Councilmember Erin Edwards, before making a motion to approve the project, “it will make it much safer for us to put the fireworks back on the mountain.”
According to City staff, the project will be completed by the Fourth of July. Work will be scheduled in phases to maintain access to the trail and Mt. Rubidoux at all times. The start of the project may be delayed until after Easter to ensure no disruption to Riverside’s annual Easter Sunrise Service, dating back 114 years.
