Neighbor of the Week: Michael J. Elderman
Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
Free event features Edgar Allan Poe performance and corvid education in historic garden setting.
While we all wait patiently for the Museum of Riverside’s main campus expansion to finish, the Museum is busy putting together a lot of great events around town. The Heritage House, on Magnolia near Adams, is especially busy this Halloween season. There’s something about the gables and turrets that evoke the underlying spookiness just below the ornate opulence of the Victorian aesthetic.
Join the Museum of Riverside for a unique evening at Heritage House on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 6–8 p.m., featuring a performance by Travis Rhett Wilson as Edgar Allan Poe. Held in the gardens of the historic home, Wilson brings Poe’s dark Romanticism to life through recitations of his most famous works. You will also get a chance to learn something about the corvid family of birds, which includes crows, ravens, magpies, and more. These intelligent and mysterious creatures, often associated with Poe’s work, will be examined in detail, helping participants understand the differences between these birds, particularly the commonly confused crows and ravens.
Whether you’re a fan of Poe, birds, Victorian Architecture, and landscape design, or just out for a spooky season activity, Candlelight and Corvids has much to offer. The Heritage House provides a historical backdrop for the event, adding character that isn’t easily found. Candlelight and Corvids are free, but a reservation is recommended.
