Earth Day 2025: Riverside Celebration Guide
From community clean-ups to insect fairs and garden tours, Riverside offers meaningful ways to celebrate sustainability this Earth Day, April 22.
Historic Riverside base welcomes public for annual aviation showcase.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will take to the skies over Riverside April 12-13 as the Southern California Air Show returns to March Air Reserve Base.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days, with aerial performances beginning at 10 a.m. Residents throughout Riverside can expect to notice increased aircraft activity throughout the weekend.
The Thunderbirds demonstration team, known for their precision flying and formation maneuvers, will showcase their skills in F-16 Fighting Falcons. The PACAF C-17 Demonstration Team will display the capabilities of military transport aircraft, while the KC-135 Stratotanker will demonstrate aerial refueling operations.
Additional performances include the Heritage Flight, pairing modern fighter jets with WWII-era aircraft, and the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.
Between aerial demonstrations, visitors can explore a static display area featuring numerous aircraft, many open for cockpit tours. From the B-52 Stratofortress to the A-10 "Warthog," these displays offer an opportunity to see military aircraft up close.
The event includes interactive exhibits, flight simulators, and STEM education activities for children. Food vendors and souvenir stands will be available throughout the grounds.
While the air show will be visible from various locations around Riverside, attending the event at the base provides a different experience. Being on the tarmac allows visitors to see the aircraft up close and gain a better understanding of their operations.
March Air Reserve Base, established in 1918, holds significant historical importance as one of the oldest continuously operating military airfields in the United States. For over a century, the base has been connected to the Riverside community, contributing to the region's development and economy.
Many Riverside families have connections to March Field through military service or civilian employment. For these families, the annual air show serves as an opportunity for service members to share their work environment with relatives.
