The Foundation is optimistic that the storefront is the beginning of a new era with great things to come.
The Mission Inn Foundation is making a comeback after nearly six months without a home. While not returning to the Inn itself, the foundation has secured a new location and mission.
The foundation's new storefront at 3750 Market St. in Riverside, California, opens Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. Although lacking the charm of its previous corner spot at the Inn, the space provides a base for retail operations, museum collections, and new downtown tours.
Jennifer Gamble, president of the Mission Inn Foundation, sees the change as an opportunity to expand the foundation's focus. "We're curating experiences that celebrate the past, present, and future of Riverside," Gamble says.
The retail store will offer Riverside and Mission Inn souvenirs, artwork, and the newly released Riverside Monopoly game. The limited-edition game is expected to sell out quickly.
While the museum is not yet ready, visitors can learn about current tours and anticipate new ones. The foundation is also preparing for its upcoming Mission Inn Run.
The hotel has arranged alternative docent services for tours inside the building, though the foundation notes the passion and experience of its docents cannot be easily replaced.
