Neighbor of the Week: John and Gigi Arnold

Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.

John and Gigi have created a fun, inclusive, and safe space where riders of all levels can come together and experience the joy of movement through Riverside. Every last Saturday of the month, they lead the free community ride known as the Riverside Electric Light Parade, welcoming participants on bikes, scooters, rollerblades, and anything on wheels. With bright lights, energetic music, and a welcoming atmosphere, they ensure that everyone—whether a seasoned cyclist or a first-time rider—feels supported and included.

Beyond the ride itself, John and Gigi have woven a strong sense of community service into the event by partnering with local nonprofits. Each month, they spotlight an organization in need, encouraging riders to bring donations or contribute in meaningful ways. Whether collecting supplies for shelters, fundraising for community programs, or supporting initiatives that uplift Riverside residents, they have turned their event into a platform for giving.

Supporting their efforts is Rodney, the organization's vice president, who resides in Chino Hills and plays a key role in helping the ride grow and thrive. Through their dedication, they have built not only a vibrant and joyful experience but also a movement that strengthens the bonds of the community and makes a lasting impact.

What does Riverside mean to you? Riverside is a place where you can build a life—whether raising a family, chasing a dream, or simply enjoying a close-knit community.

What is your Mt. Rubidoux summit count (estimated)? At least 40 times over the past decade.

What is your favorite restaurant outside of Downtown or Magnolia Center? Riverside Airport Café—great food, friendly service, and a unique view of small planes taking off and landing.

What is the most beautiful building in Riverside? The Historic Courthouse on Main Street—its architecture and presence tell a story of Riverside’s rich past.

What is your favorite Riverside small business? There are so many great ones, but Mr. Taco and EDR Printing N Vinyl are definitely among my favorites.

What is your favorite Riverside non-profit organization? FSA Family Services Association—they do incredible work supporting families in need throughout the community.

The Festival of Lights: Every year on opening night or maybe on a Tuesday? Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving, but in recent years, we’ve gone a little earlier to beat the crowds.

What is your go-to sandwich in town? The D'Ceaseto Italian from the deli at Arlington and Adams—fresh ingredients and packed with flavor.

What is your idea of a perfect weekend day in Riverside? A bike ride along the Santa Ana River Trail to Downtown Riverside, cruising through Fairmount Park, grabbing lunch, and riding back.

Do you call it the Galleria or Tyler Mall? Galleria, though it will always be the Tyler Mall at heart.

What is one place in Riverside you would bring back if you could? Toys "R" Us—nothing matched the excitement of walking through those aisles as a kid.

If you could put one message on a billboard on the 91, what would it be? "Welcome to Riverside—A City on the Move!"

Finally, let our readers know what you’re working on right now and how they can support your efforts—whether it’s a project, passion, or cause close to your heart! Our riders are always asking, “Do you know anyone selling an e-bike?” or “Which e-bike should I buy?” So, we took the next step—we got a dealer’s license to offer e-bikes and e-scooters at fair prices to our community. Our goal is to open a downtown bike shop this year, creating a hub for riders to find quality bikes, gear, and support. We also rent e-bikes for those who want to join our rides but don’t have their own. What started as a simple idea has grown into something incredible— we never imagined leading hundreds of riders through our magical, beautiful city. It’s our passion to spread joy and bring smiles to people’s faces as we light up the streets together. Our motto says it all: "Get Lit, So You Don’t Get Hit!" and, of course, "Free, Family, Fun!"

Neighbor of the Week is our way of celebrating the hidden heroes of Riverside—those who go above and beyond to make our community stronger, kinder, and more vibrant. We believe every remarkable Riversider deserves their story told. Know someone who’s making a difference? Nominate a Neighbor of the Week
