Fabricate Flurry-ously
A prompt to encourage your practice of creativity this week from Riversider and local author Larry Burns.
Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
I'm an artist entrepreneur in the fields of traditional animation, Japanese manga, and cut-out paper theater. My Art is built and designed to create peace with a colorful imagination. Educating the beautiful wonders of faith and fun under a unified umbrella. I have worked and volunteered at the Riverside Art Museum (RAM) and Inlandia Institute, contributing to special projects and hosting Animation & Manga workshops. God continues to help make a path with & for me while accompanied by others' support. From age 4 to animating at 8, studying at RAM to graduating from Riverside City College (RCC) three times, having my manga published with Inlandia at 22, and finally doing a comic panel series for the Raincross Gazette. I thank God every day for all these things within my life of twenty years plus, and now, at 24, I'm just getting started.
My business, StarLite-Crystal Animation & Art Studio, works to spark a resurgence in the Classic Arts while creating new original stories based on and inspired by Riverside. The Vermillion-Speedateer and Citrus Bellé gave me the chance to creatively share the joy I've experienced here and inspire others to do the same. Riverside never had comic book superheroes before, so instead of waiting, I boldly created them myself. I'm the result of Riverside Art Museum, Inlandia Institute, and the Raincross Gazette's support for the local arts. My studio is my answer to giving back to the community, building careers & giving opportunities to express, educate & share the brewing imagination from the heart and soul within.
What does Riverside mean to you? Born, raised, and currently residing here, my life revolved around the Golden State's Citrus Blossom known as Riverside. Being in Los Angeles' backyard, I've always felt like our city has an abundance of bold creativity and untapped wonder just waiting to be explored. Riverside, its culture, sister cities, and people became my own sandbox to build & bend beyond imagination. Its environment is bold & beautiful, so animated yet calm with colors that age and shine. Every brick, bell, stone, and season has a story either told or waiting to be uncovered. I aim to have a physical studio here in Riverside, so I'm looking for support to make it a reality. I want to establish my own brick and colors for our citrus kaleidoscope and evolving history. Riverside is historical, always invoking and sparking adventure no matter its expanding landscape within SoCal's Inland Empire. I believe its beauty will continue to shine and ring beyond my time.
What is your favorite Riverside small business? Guerrero's Treasures & Collectibles Antique Mall is a rare Riverside Gem, and the store owner, Mike Guerrero, is an extraordinary human being. Time, treasure, wisdom, and friendship are found in this little shop of big wonders. You never know what unexpected beauty you'll find there, so visit Mr. Mike's shop to start your own adventure and tell him that Sebraé sent you!
What is your favorite Riverside non-profit organization? Riverside Art Museum and Inlandia Institute are vessels for creatives to shine and be their authentic selves. They brought the community together, and I'm forever grateful for their creative existence and values toward the local arts.
Do you call it the Galleria or Tyler Mall? Everyone and their mother knows Riversiders call it "THE TYLER MALL." You're a foreigner if you call it "The Galleria" or "Galleria on Tyler."
What is one place in Riverside you would bring back if you could? ROLLER CITY 2001!!! That roller rink brought my childhood to life through astounding color, music, and roller skating fun! It gave me a chance to actively tap into my 1980s persona, grooving under the neon city lights. I would like the bubble gum-pop-loving roller rink to make a phenomenal return and bring glory to a new generation. A bonus from my beautiful and loving mother: She would like GEMCO to return (Now that's a classic; the matriarch has spoken).
