Neighbor of the Week: Michael J. Elderman
Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
The Riverside Arts Academy (RAA) has announced the launch of its 2024-2025 season, featuring a variety of music ensembles for students from 2nd to 12th grade with a wide range of musical abilities.
In addition to the launch of the new season, RAA has hired a new lead teaching artist for its Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside program, Alex Treviño II. A former Grammy Award Winning Mariachi Los Camperos group member, this new hire is a classically trained musician with deep familial roots in Mariachi music. "I'm very excited to be on board here at the Riverside Arts Academy as the new Mariachi Director!" says Alex Treviño II, "I can't wait to make some music with all of the Mariachi students.”
"Alex Treviño II embodies what it means to be a Teaching Artist: he welds his deep knowledge of the Mariachi tradition with his passion for teaching music. We are thrilled to have him lead one of our organization's fastest-growing and most celebrated programs," said Adam Karelin, RAA's Executive & Artistic Director.
RAA will once again offer its flagship ensembles, including the Riverside Youth Orchestra, Riverside Children's Choir, and Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside. Other courses include Honor Band, Beginner Strings I, Beginner Strings II, Camerata Strings, Beginner Guitar, and Guitar Ensemble.
The Riverside Arts Academy (RAA) is committed to providing students with the opportunity to enrich and nurture their development as individuals through access to arts education. Enrollment for the 2024-2025 academic year is now open at riversideartsacademy.com.
