The City of Riverside will celebrate Black history and culture with its annual Black History Expo & Parade on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The parade, one of the oldest and largest of its kind in Southern California, will honor the legacy and achievements of African Americans in the region and beyond.
This year's event marks the 45th anniversary, making it one of the Riverside's most durable institutions. The event is expected to draw thousands of people from all backgrounds, uniting the community in a celebration of heritage and unity.
The parade, a display of community pride, will feature floats, marching bands, dancers, and representatives from local schools, churches, businesses, and organizations. The procession will begin at 10 a.m. at Riverside City College, making its way through the city streets before ending in front of the Historic Riverside County Courthouse.
Following the parade, attendees are invited to explore the Black History Expo at the courthouse. The expo will showcase local businesses and community organizations, along with live entertainment and informative booths highlighting Black history and culture. Food trucks will be set up in the City Hall parking lot with a variety of dining options.
The Black History Expo & Parade is organized and hosted by the Adrian Dell and Carmen Roberts Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering education, health, and community development within the African American community. Their commitment to the community makes this annual celebration possible.
This event is a celebration of Black History Month, but it is more about what's going on now than in the past. It is an expression of a deeply-connected and long-standing African American community in Riverside and the greater region. It is a showcase of the past, present, and future economic and cultural contributions of Riverside's African American community to the city at large.
