Is rain advanced a thing? Even in Southern California, rain delays are common enough. The Tuesday night Crosstown Showdown softball game between the University of California Riverside and California Baptist University was played one night earlier than planned to slide in under an incoming storm predicted to be a heavy rain event.
UCR wasted no time putting two runs on the board at the top of the first inning. CBU answered two third-inning Highlander runs at the bottom of the inning, but that would all be in the scoring category.
The Lancers had a runner walk onto first base in the seventh inning but could not get her across the plate. The Highlanders earned an exciting rivalry game victory four runs to two.
Senior Lancer pitcher Morgan McConnell takes her third loss of the season. Look for her record to improve, as CBU has played a brutal early-season schedule, including top-five-ranked Oklahoma University.
This season, the Tuesday night contest was the only scheduled meeting between the Highlanders and the Lancers. Both teams have games scheduled for Valentineās Day. The Lancers host the University of San Diego, and the Highlanders travel to Palo Alto for an early-season tournament.
Keep up with the Lancers and the Highlanders, as the season is just getting started.
