Neighbor of the Week: Michael J. Elderman
Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
The CBU and UCR Men’s Basketball teams both had conference quarterfinal games on Thursday night. CBU limped into the WAC Conference Tournament after their leading scorer, Dominique Daniels Jr., suffered a season-ending knee injury in February. The Seattle University Redhawks eliminated the Lancers 57-81 on fifty-two percent three-point shooting.
The UCR Highlanders faced off against Long Beach State for their Big West Tournament quarterfinal game. The Beach defeated the Lancers in their two previous season meetings. The Highlanders managed to hang around for most of the game, but the Beach found their rhythm late and pulled away for a 67-86 victory.
The Highlanders and the Lancers both head back to Riverside in early exits. Long Beach State will play UC Irvine in a Semifinal showdown tonight at 6 p.m.
Long Beach State also Eliminated UCR in the Women’s tournament in an overtime victory. CBU Women’s Basketball earned an early-round bye as the number one seed in The WAC Women’s Tournament. They will play the University of Texas Austin at noon on Friday.
After sweeping Seattle to open their conference schedule last weekend, The Lancers won a midweek game 3-2 against The University of Southern California. They became the first Lancer team in any sport to beat the Trojans.
Little guys show up big for the Lancers at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship Tournament. Elijah Griffin, 125 pounds, and Hunter Leake, 133 pounds, both place and move on to the NCAA National Tournament.
