Neighbor of the Week: Michael J. Elderman
Each week, we will introduce a new neighbor. This is not a who's who list. These are regular Riversiders doing exceptional things.
CSDR defends their CIF title in Flintridge, and Woodcrest Christian cross country standout competes for individual title.
Preseason matches have begun for high school soccer. On Tuesday, November 26, the Poly Bears host the King Wolves in a warm-up for the regular season. This game may not be an official league match, but that doesn't mean the guys aren't taking it seriously. Many of these boys have been playing with and against each other since they were six years old. Bragging rights are enough incentive to bring out their A-game early. The match will be at Poly High School on Tuesday at 7 PM.
Congratulations to all the schools that made the CIF-SS Football Postseason. There is only one Riverside school left. The Cubs are taking the long bus ride to the San Gabriel Valley to defend their CIF, Division 1, 8-man title against the Flintridge Prep Wolves. Both teams are undefeated and have never played against each other.
Poly and King High Schools have both qualified for the CIF Division 1 Cross Country Finals, which will be held at Mt. SAC this weekend. Woodcrest Girls Qualified for the Division 5 final, and Evan Turk of Woodcrest will move on as an individual in CIF Division 5. Evan has the top time coming out of Prelims in the Division, at 15:30.7 for the three-mile course.
High School and Collegiate Sports are community events open to the public. Many people's civic engagement begins in high school, and that identity carries on through adulthood. Attending these games, buying a snack or a T-shirt, or cheering on the Alma Mater or the neighbor's kid are all great ways to engage in Riverside.
