Winners of this weekend’s contests move on to CIF-SS Quarterfinals.
This is a football-heavy edition. With flag football in playoffs and high school boys' Varsity seasons in their final weeks, we look forward to the imminent start of college and high school basketball, the end of college and the beginning of high school soccer, and the start of spring sports. If there’s a story you think needs attention in local sports, email me at Ken@raincrossgazette.com.
Congratulations to the North, Norte Vista, Hillcrest, and King High girls' flag football teams for their first-round victories in the CIF-SS Playoffs. The second-round matchups will take place this Saturday. We will update you with the scores next Friday. Good luck!
(Playoff times and locations are subject to change. This list is accurate at time of writing. Check Maxpreps.com for up to date information)
La Sierra hosts Norte Vista on Friday night for their rivalry game. For decades, the Braves of Norte Vista and the Eagles of La Sierra were the only high schools west of Van Buren in town. While Alvord Unified has since added Hillcrest to the mix, the deep-rooted rivalry between the Braves and the Eagles still stands strong.
La Sierra has been struggling this season and comes into the game with a 2-6 record. Norte Vista is having a great season. Their only loss was to the undefeated Ramona Rams.
Look for the Brave's offensive double threat of Running Back Dreadie Allen and Wide Receiver Jyden Henderson. The Junior duo have combined for 21 touchdowns in 8 games for the Braves.
