Fabricate Flurry-ously
A prompt to encourage your practice of creativity this week from Riversider and local author Larry Burns.
City Council doesn't meet this week. Other committees meet to consider approving a new permanent art installation in White Park and presentations on Riverside's housing challenges and racial profiling in the police department.
Welcome to our weekly digest on public meetings and agenda items worthy of your attention in the next week. This guide is part of our mission to provide everyday Riversiders like you with the information to speak up on the issues you care about.
The Park and Recreation Commission meets Monday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m. (agenda). The commission will receive a proposal from the Riverside Arts Council and the Mayor's Beautify Riverside initiative to install a 17-foot-tall permanent sculpture in White Park. The sculpture will be designed, fabricated, and installed by Alderette Designs (the same team who created the Lock in Your Love monument on Main St.) as a metal tree.
The cost of the sculpture's installation and maintenance would be the responsibility of the Riverside Arts Council, which aims to unveil the piece at the Riverside Art & Music Festival on October 7, 2023.
The Human Relations Commission meets Wednesday, August 23, at 6:00 p.m. (agenda). The primary item presented for fusion is a review of the 2023 Racial Identity Profiling Act Annual Report.
The Human Relations Commission meets Thursday, August 24, at 6:00 p.m. (agenda). The committee will receive a presentation on current housing challenges in the city.
